Students at FJCA in Elizabeth, NJ will be taking the School Day SAT tomorrow. I have taken the SAT many times and can COMMISERATE with your feelings of anxiety. Don’t worry! Mr. Chmiel and InsiderTestPrep.Substack.com will help you ace challenging SAT vocabulary words like COMMISERATE!
COMMISERATE means to express or feel sympathy with someone. For example, during the 1960s. civil rights activists were frequently arrested and held in cramped, unsanitary conditions. In these moments of confinement, protestors would sing “freedom songs” to COMMISERATE and bolster one another’s spirits. By sharing their fear and their resolve, they transformed jail into a apace of collective strength and emotional support.
To COMMISERATE effectively, there usually needs to be a sense of shared experience. It isn’t just feeling sorry for someone; it’s feeling sorry with them because you understand their struggle.
