ILLUMINATE literally means to shine a light on something. For example, our Substack Winning Words posts are intended to shine a light on and thus ILLUMINATE the meaning of challenging SAT vocabulary words.
SAT test writers have used two very different topics to illustrate how the word ILLUMINATE can clarify a difficult topic. In the first and most recent example, Hawaiian literary figures use traditional stories to ILLUMINATE the experiences of the island’s native peoples for readers around the world. In the second example, paleoanthropologists use fossil remains to help ILLUMINATE dimly known events that occurred in the Pliocene Epoch 5.3 to 2.5 million years ago.
