My SAT students recently reported that the tests they took in March 2026 and May 2026 included a significant number of vocabulary in context questions that appeared on both tests. For example, both the tests contained vocabulary in context passages describing the amazing RIGOR required for a natural history museum staff to create a dinosaur display. Is the appearance of the RIGOR question a coincidence or is it part of larger pattern? My search for the answer to this question produced surprising results. Here’s what I found:
An exhaustive analysis of all available materials about SATs administered from November 2024 – May 2026 revealed that at least 1/3 of the vocabulary in context questions are repeats! For example, the RIGOR question appeared on the May 2026, March 2026, October 2025, September 2025, and March 2025 SATs.
This discovery has exciting and important implications for students preparing to learn SAT vocabulary words. Memorizing long lists of words that may or may not have appeared on the SAT is a pointless waste of time. Instead, there is a core group of high-frequency Winning Words that deserve your attention.
