Our picture provides a particularly vivid depiction of the DISPARITY or differences in economic levels between the opulent grandeur of the Taj Mahal and the poverty found in the nearby crowded streets.
DISPARITY is an important SAT vocabulary word. But don’t expect to see a passage describing stark economic DISPARITIES. Instead, be prepared for a passage about unexpected comparisons. For example, a recent passage described the DISPARITIES in size between different species of extinct marine mollusks.
Another series of vocabulary in context questions compares the DISPARITIES between the top speeds of birds and animals that run on land. For example, the springbok can run at a top speed of 42 mph, while a frigatebird can fly at a top speed of 95mph.
DISPARITY – a noticeable and often significant difference or lack of equality between two or more things.
