ATTRITION is the gradual wearing down or reduction of something over time. It is often used to describe the wearing down of forces on the Western Front during World War I. In recent tests, SAT test writers have used ATTRITION to describe the inevitable loss of subjects in studies designed to observe and collect data from the same group of elderly subjects over a period of time.
