Consumer INERTIA is the tendency of buyers to stick with a familiar brand or product. For example, all of my students use iPhones. When I asked if they would consider switching to a Samsung or some other smartphone, they demonstrated consumer INERTIA by unanimously answering – “No!”
Do not expect SAT test writers to use iPhones to illustrate consumer INERTIA. Instead, be prepared for examples in which companies benefit from the INERTIA of “passive” consumers who neglect to renew their magazine subscriptions.
