    CORROBORATE or PALPABLE?

Analysis of a disputed November 2024 SAT question about Spanish architectural influence in California - CORROBORATE vs PALPABLE

    Published on May 12, 2025

The November 2024 SAT contained a disputed question about the Spanish contribution to California architecture. Reddit posters were evenly divided between those who chose CORROBORATE and those who picked PALPABLE. So what is the correct answer? Here's my take: According to the passage the tile roofs and picturesque façades of many California missions demonstrate Spanish contributions to California architecture. The influence can be easily recognized by architectural tourists. CORROBORATE is a very tempting answer because it means to confirm or support a claim. The passage does seem to assert the claim that the influence of Spanish architecture is easily recognized in many California buildings. But what about PALPABLE? Many students failed to recall that PALPABLE describes a visible object or style that can be seen and is therefore easily recognized. The key phrase easily recognized points directly to PALPABLE. So the correct answer is PALPABLE.
